AWWU is looking to put in a 2 million gallon water tank to serve new developments off S. Goldenview.  The primary site being evaluated for this is in a residential neighborhood on 2 lots on Norway Drive.  The residents are very concerned about the potential eye sore, devaluation in property value, and increases in taxes due to the new tank.

The AWWU 2005 Master Plan discusses the need for a water tank at the south end of S. Goldenview to accomdate future development.  After much public communication against the process for site selection, AWWU say they have a new process to involve the community before announcing the site for the new water tank.  I heard at a recent Hillside District Plan meeting that AWWU plans to run a water main down S. Goldenview for the new water tank.  This water tank will supply south Anchorage in addition to the new development via gravity.

AWWU representatives also explained that the water supply would be cut off to the customers in case of a wild fire so that the water will be aviailable to fight the fire.  I was asked by one of the residents to post some documents so that everyone has easy access to the information that is available.  The latest Fire Wise advice we heard at the Rabbit Creek Community Council on March 8th, says that if you have a "fire wise" home area which means defensible space for a fire, that homeowners could choose to stay and defend their house with adequate water supply.  I think I prefer will stick with my well and autonomy to defend my house with my well and generator.  I feel sorry for the home owners in Prominence Pointe and Goldenview Park.. but then again, the developer cut down pretty much every tree so maybe it won't be a problem for them.
